PROGRESS AND PURPOSE
What is ISKCON 60?
In the summer of 2026, as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) marks its momentous 60th anniversary, devotees, friends, and well-wishers from across Texas and beyond will gather in Houston for a joyous and inspiring gala event on Saturday, June 13, 2026. This celebration honors six decades of spiritual transformation that began when His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada founded ISKCON in July 1966 in New York City. ISKCON of Houston was incorporated in 1977. After a 10-year period in Downtown Houston, Temple moved to the current location.
Arriving alone in America at age 69 with unwavering determination and just a few dollars and books in hand, Srila Prabhupada planted the seed of Krishna consciousness in the West, introducing the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, and a path of bhakti-yoga (devotional service) that has since touched millions of lives worldwide.
From humble beginnings in a small storefront on Second Avenue in New York, ISKCON has blossomed into a global movement with 1,000 temples (centers), farm communities, schools, vegetarian restaurants, and humanitarian initiatives like Food for Life, serving sanctified foods to those in need and fostering genuine peace amid modern challenges.
CELEBRATE THE GIFT WORTH GIVING
A Landmark Event to Remember
In Houston, our local ISKCON community, which is rooted in devotion, cultural richness, and selfless service has long embodied this legacy through its vibrant temple programs, Sunday Love Feasts, youth outreach, and community events. Now, on this very special evening, the gala serves as a heartfelt tribute to Srila Prabhupada’s vision, a reflection on the past 60 incredible years, and an enthusiastic recommitment to carrying his mission forward into the future. The ISKCON 60 Gala, hosted at the elegant venue in Houston (1320 West 34th Street, Houston, Texas), will feature uplifting meditation music led by local young students and musicians, evoking the ecstatic spirit of Lord Chaitanya’s chanting of holy names. Attendees will enjoy a sumptuous vegetarian dinner prepared with love, explore a special legacy exhibition showcasing Srila Prabhupada’s journey, ISKCON’s growth in North America and beyond, and impactful stories from the past six decades; including personal testimonies of transformation, service, and devotion. Inspirational talks by senior devotees and leaders will highlight key milestones, while multimedia presentations, archival footage, and artistic performances bring the history to life. The evening will culminate with a renewed pledge to spread Lord Krishna’s message of love, compassion, and spiritual fulfillment. The Houston gala is part of the broader global 60-50 commemoration, uniting temples and communities everywhere in honoring ISKCON’s enduring contributions and Srila Prabhupada’s eternal guidance.
